The younger sister of Georgia O'Keeffe, she painted throughout her life and exhibited infrequently in New York during the 1930s. She was primarily a nurse.

She studied art under Alon Bement at the University of Virginia summer school and earned an M.A. in Fine Arts from Columbia University Teacher's College in 1932.
